4/3 MS Announcements
Maquoketa Middle School
Any 8th grade boy interested in playing High School Baseball this summer should come to an informational meeting on Tuesday during CST in Room 34 (Mr. Fuss’s room).
Student Council will be collecting any crayons or markers you may have. Please bring them in to your CST teacher beginning Monday, March 27th. We will also celebrate National Crayola Crayon Day on March 31st by dressing as a CRAYON! Dress head to toe in your favorite color. No hats or hair color allowed.
Crayon and Marker Recycling with Jackson County Conservation
Do you have a sad old shoebox with old crayons sitting on a shelf? How about those questionable markers in the back of a desk drawer? Clear them out and give them new life. Jackson County Conservation is working with the Crayon Recycling Program and Crayola to provide a way to recycle these items. In a landfill, a standard crayon make take up to 100 years to decompose and marker barrels can take thousands. The crayons are sorted by color, melted and the wrappers are skimmed off and sold as fire starters. The crayon wax is poured into molds to make more crayons, available at CrazyCrayon.com . Markers have the ink wadding and tip removed then the #6 plastic barrels can be converted to a fuel to primarily run generators.
We will collect until Friday, April 7th.
Scott’s Pitch Hit Run will be Friday April 21 at the Maquoketa YMCA starting at 5:00. Forms are available in the office.
CONGRATULATIONS to our band students who represented Maquoketa Middle School so well at last Saturday’s NEIBA Solo & Ensemble Festival.
Out of 60 entries, the results were as follows:
51 (85%) of all entries received “Superior” ratings (This is the best rating.)
9 (15%) of all entries received “Excellent” ratings
No entry received a “Good” rating
Our all-time high percentage point of 86% “Superior” ratings was set in 2006.
Of the 51 entries receiving “Superior” ratings, 11 performances received the additional distinction of “Highly Superior.” A “Highly Superior” rating is given for an exceptional performance demonstrating advanced musical maturity. The students receiving a “Highly Superior” rating were Briley Miller, Keelan Hoover, Todd Acton, Troy Behnke, Austin Barnes, Zayne Rich, Ian Schneweis, Megan Feltes, Sarah Vazquez, Dane Durkop, Caleb Beck, Ivan Martin, and Jacob Pawlowski. WAY TO GO BANDS!
6th Grade Parents; The Iowa Department of Public Health has made changes to the Iowa Immunization law for the start of the 2017/2018 school year. This changes requires that all students entering 7th grade have both a Meningococcal vaccine and Tdap (Tetnus, Diptheria, Pertusis/whooping cough) booster before school starts this fall. Drop completed forms off in the Nurse’s office
Simpson College is proud to announce the lineup for the second year of its summer camp for middle schoolers! This one-week camp is intended for students who like to read, think about ideas, and use their imaginations. All of the “major” classes are taught by full-time Simpson College professors from the History, English, and Religion departments, so it is a great opportunity for students to get a taste of liberal arts college education.
For more information, check out the website www.simpson.edu/summercamp or contact Prof. Nicolas W. Proctor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
