Students should not be bringing their computers or books to the lunchroom for lunch. Your belongings should be put in your locker or left in the classroom. Students should not be putting their items in the hallways by the cafeteria or on the floor in the cafeteria.
Student Council will be sponsoring the following Homecoming Dress Up Days
Wednesday, September 25th Dress up as a TOURIST Day
Thursday, September 26th Wear a Hat Day – Cost is $1.00 to participate (All money raised from this event will go towards grade level end of the year Field Trip Funds)
Friday, September 27th Spirit Day. Wear all the Red and White you can.
(You can pay $1.00 to wear a hat or bandana and all money will go to grade level field trip funds) Tattoos are fine but NO FACE PAINT PLEASE!!
Get your RED and WHITE BEADS and Cardinal TATTOOS in time for Homecoming Day!!! Student Council will be selling Cardinal Tattoos and Red and White beads Thursday, September 26th after school in Mrs. Ferguson’s room and Friday, September 27th in the morning from 7:55-8:10 in the cafeteria. Beads are .50 each and tattoos are $1.00.
Student Council will be sponsoring a Pet Food Drive September 17th through September 26th. You may drop off your items in the cafeteria from 8:00-8:15 or in Mrs. Ferguson’s room. For each donation you make you will earn a chance to win a football signed by the Maquoketa Football team or several Maquoketa T-shirts. This has been a great fundraiser in the past and our local Humane Society greatly appreciates all of our donations. Make this year another FABULOUS year!!
On Sept 25, we have our first Be a Card activity, which will be Tape the teacher to the wall/Minute to Win It. But this year there will be more! We will be having a drawing to have two students taped to the wall as well. If you want to be involved, you need to tell your home room teacher and that teacher will give you a permission slip. That permission slip and 10 CARDS will be due by Sept 19. No one will be allowed in the drawing without the permission slip signed. We will announce the two lucky winners, one boy and one girl, Friday Sept 20.
Parents of free/reduced students;
If you have not filled out a free/reduced form for this year, please do so. Starting October 1st, any student that received free/reduced meals last year and have NOT filled out the form yet for this year, your student will start having to pay full price for meals until a new form is turned in. If you are direct from DHS you do not have to worry about this.
THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM HAS MADE A CHANGE TO THE IOWA ADMINISTRATIVE CODE TO REQUIRE A TdAP VACCINATION FOR ALL ADOLESCENTS ENROLLED IN SECONDARY SCHOOL. IT WILL BE EFFECTIVE BEGINNING WITH THE 2013-14 SCHOOL YEAR. THE NEW LANGUAGE IS INTENDED TO REQUIRE ADOLESCENTS ENTERING 7TH GRADE (APPROXIMATELY 13 YEARS OF AGE) TO HAVE ONE DOSE OF THE Tdap VACCINE.
DOCUMENTATION OF THE Tdap VACCINE ON THE CERTIFICATE OF IMMUNIZATION WILL NEED TO BE PROVIDED TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL NURSE PRIOR TO OCTOBER 1, 2013 OR ENROLLMENT CAN BE DENIED ACCORDING TO THE IOWA LAW.
GIVE KIDS A SMILE DENTAL PROGRAM
BETHANY FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IS OFFERING FREE DENTAL CARE THROUGH THE GIVE KIDS A SMILE DENTAL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO GET DENTAL CARE ON THEIR OWN. TO PROVIDE THIS CARE, OUR DENTAL BUS WILL COME TO YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL. ALL SERVICE INDIVIDUALS ARE LICENSED DENTAL PROFESSIONALS.
IF INTERESTED GO TO THE SCHOOL WEB SITE TO COPY APPLICATIONS FORMS. FORMS ARE DUE TO THE SCHOOL NURSE BY OCTOBER 8, 2013 AND THE BUS WILL BE AT SCHOOL ON OCTOBER 23, 2013.
