PARENTS:

Please note the rule change regarding the use of electronic devices/cell phones at the Maquoketa Middle School this year.  This was a board approved policy change made in July, 2015.  This decision was made due to the latest research, which has shown that students spending time accessing social media, texting and gaming during school time has affected the  learning growth of students on tests and grades.  Many middle schools nationwide, are seeing a huge uptick in academic and discipline behaviors due to the use of these devices in schools. You may contact your student through the main office, if needed, anytime during the school day, for a message you need to get to him/her.  Students may use their devices after school and for any messages needed to be shared during their involvement with activities.
The Maquoketa Middle School does provide school approved computers, laptops, netbooks for educational purposes.
Students will not use personal electronic devices in the building during the school day, from entrance time until 3:20 P.M.  This includes the following:
Cell phones, MP3 players, tablets, iPods, gaming devices
 or other personal electronic devices
This rule is not intended to preclude the use of electronic devices for educational purposes. MMS is a learning zone.  All prohibited electronic devices will be confiscated by Maquoketa Middle School employees. The device will be turned in to the main office along with a disciplinary referral for a lunch detention. The device will be kept in the office and returned to the student/parent/guardian at the end of the day and before 3:45 P.M. Repeat offenses will result in additional disciplinary action for the second and third offense.  Please see the 2015-16 Student Handbook for further details.  You may access the handbook on the Middle School website.
Thank you for you cooperation.
