There will be a meeting for all potential golfers, male and female on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.  Report to GST first, then go to the ICN at 1:15.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.  Safe Path survivor resources is sponsoring a poster contest.  The theme is “What do people need to know about teen dating violence?”  Posters need to be turned in by Thursday, February 16.

 

Simpson College will be in the Counseling Office on Wed Feb 15 at 1:00.  A signup sheet is in the Counseling Office.

 

Attention parents of FFA members – The next FFA Alumni meeting is on February 15, 2017 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Ag room.  Hope to see you there!

 

SENIORS: Frank from Jostens will be here during lunch on Friday, February 24 with graduation orders (invitations, etc.).  If you are expecting something, please be sure to meet with him during your lunch break.  YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CAP AND GOWN – those will be delivered the week prior to graduation.

Track season begins today (Monday)!  Practice will start at 3:45 in the multipurpose room (next to the weight room). Please note the following:

  • All girls interested should have filled out an athlete information form in Mr. Voland’s room (room 209). If you haven’t… that’s ok! Please do so ASAP!
  • We will be going outside for part of Monday’s practice. It is mandatory that you have hats, gloves, sweatpants and sweatshirts to stay warm.
  • Be sure to turn in physical forms and updated concussion forms to the office.

CAGE Individual Speech students please sign up for practices today!  WaMac Contest is this Saturday, Feb. 11, at West Delaware.  Bus leaves at 6:30 am.!!!

 

Congratulations to the Maquoketa wrestlers on an outstanding performance on Saturday. The wrestlers advanced four individuals to Districts this Saturday in Maquoketa. Justin Holst, Lucas Davison and Abe Michel finished 2nd at their sectional. Trevor Bickford was the Sectional champion.

Attention Students and Staff: Buy a “Crush for your Crush” for Valentine’s Day from a Student Senate member in the cafeteria during all lunch shifts on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 8. Cost is $1.00 per can.

 

Spanish Club is hosting the Ties and Tiaras Ball on Sunday from 1-4pm at Centerstone Inn. It is a father/daughter dance for girls aged 6th grade and younger. If you have a little sister who might be interested please see Ms. Wallace for more information!

IHSSA State Large Group speech contest is this Saturday, Feb.4, at Cedar Rapids Washington!  We will leave from the lower parking lot at 6:30 am! If you went to District contest, you are welcome to join us to go and support the team.  Please let Mrs. Krum know if you are planning on going on Saturday.  Break a leg CAGE speech student!!!

 

CAGE 9th grade students who are doing individual speech competition, I need to see you today!!! Please stop in and give me your titles!

 

CAGE individual speech students (both varsity and 9th grade) need to have their titles and selections given to Mrs. Krum by the end of the day today!  Please see Mrs. Krum if you have any questions or concerns!

 

Attention all basketball fans: HOSA members and the cheerleaders are announcing Friday’s home game as a “red out” in honor of heart health month. Please wear red to show your support not only for a healthy heart but also for the home team.

 

Attention Juniors:  Beginning next school year, the State of Iowa has enacted a rule that all incoming Seniors are REQUIRED to show proof of having gotten a Meningococcal immunization.  Remember this the next time you go to the doctor.

BPA members: We are working the concession stand on Saturday, Feb. 4. Make sure you are there by 1:15.  Each member needs to bring 1-2 dozen(s) baked goods. Any questions please see Ms. Buckwalter.

 

There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, 2/1 at 3:30 for any boys interested in TRACK.  The meeting will be held in the LMC (Library) with Mr. Duffy.

Parents of FFA members, there will be a FFA Alumni meeting on January 25th @ 7:00 p.m. in the Ag Room.  Please plan to attend to learn about the future of the FFA program and the upcoming Fish Fry and Auction.

Student Senate is sponsoring an all-school assembly on Wednesday, January 25. Mitch Goudy, a motivational speaker and musician, will be speaking to students and staff in the main gymnasium from 1:10-2:10. Students should report to their GSTs at 1:00 to check-in with their teachers and then go immediately to the gym. 5th block will begin once students are released from the gym at about 2:10.

Also – a reminder to seniors – the deadline to submit your picture (of choice) for the YEARBOOK is January 13. The traditional ‘head and shoulder’ shot (for the newspaper) will be due to Mrs. Edwards on or before April 30.

BPA MEMBERS: We are working the concession stand Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 4. Be there on both dates around 4:15. If we have enough students we can do 2 shifts. Please bring 1-2 dozen(s) baked goods on both dates.  Reminder: State is Sunday, Feb. 19-Tuesday, Feb. 21

CAGE monthly meeting this Friday, January 6, at 7:30am in Mrs. Krum’s room.  Will be discussing upcoming contests.

CAGE students should be signing up for rehearsals!  Our first contest is WAMAC, Monday, January 16, at Western Dubuque in Epworth.  Then we have IHSSA District contest on January 21 at Monticello High School. Get your groups together and sign up ASAP!

There is still a VERY large list of students who have not turned in their dental form to Mrs. Horner!  The dental hygienist will be here Monday, November 28th to check any students who have not turned one in by then.

Mrs. Taylor’s Health Class will eat first lunch shift today.

Mr. Brun’s 3rd block class will eat 4th shift today.

This change is necessary to accommodate the speaker.

University of Iowa will be in Room 113 (Ms. Rakers Room) on Tues Nov 15th at 1:00.  A signup sheet is in the Counseling Office.

SENIORS: If you have not voted for class color/flower/motto – please stop in the office and vote with Denise!  You have until Wednesday!

This week club hOpe would like to honor the students and staff of this school for all of their hard work day in and out! We have come up with the “Nacho” Average School Week were we will be honoring different parts of our school each day! Today we are honoring Fine Arts and will be passing out free nachos at the end of the day for anyone who would like some in the cafeteria at the end of the day!!

High School Announcements

November 7 – 11

Thank you to the student athlete’s that brought drinks and baked items to the concession stand.  The second basketball tournament sponsored by the Athletic Boosters is this weekend.  There will be 66 teams.  If you are able to work or if you still need to bring your donations see Mrs. Taylor in the ICN.

CAGE premiere of “The Election” will be this Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 PM at the Ohnward Fine Arts Theater!  We hope you will come and support the drama club here at MHS!

Matinee for the show will be held at Ohnward this Wednesday!  There will be a list for staff.  Students are to be dismissed at noon.

Rehearsal schedule is posted on Mrs. Krum’s door for this whole week.  Rehearsal tonight at Ohnward at 6:00 PM.  Costumes and props, lights and sound.

CAGE members please remember to sign up to bring bars and cookies to the concession stand this weekend at Ohnward.
