A local BUsiness donated numerous new items…purses, leggings, shirts, dresses, jackets and sweaters.  The tags are still on them.  We also have a wide variety of jeans and personal hygiene items.  Take advantage of this great resource.

 

Get signed up by Tuesday, November 21st for large group speech. Sign-up poster is outside of Krum’s room on the bulletin board.  

Elly Flenker, a 2016 MHS grad, will be in the Counseling Office on Mon Nov 20 at 1:00 to talk to students about UNI’s Panther Push program.  She will share about life at UNI.

 

Seniors will be voting for class color, flower, and motto during lunch on Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21.

 

Recommend new Library books, we are currently in the process of buying new books, it there is a title you would like to see write it down and turn it into Mrs. Baas or Mrs. Good in the LMC.

 

The IA State Special Olympics bowling competition was held Saturday, November 18 in Cedar Rapids. Dakota Jordan earned a 3rd place bronze medal and Fernando Garcia a 2nd place silver medal. Congratulations to these fine athletes!

Iowa WORKS Eastern Iowa is hosting a Registered Apprenticeship Fair on Thursday, Nov 16 from 2:00 – 4:30 in Davenport.  For more information come to the Counseling Office.

 

University of Dubuque will be in the Counseling Office on Tuesday, Nov 14 at 1:00.  A signup sheet is in the Counseling Office.

Maquoketa Athletic Boosters Basketball Tournament Fundraiser

Girls: November 4th

Boys: November 11th & 12th

 

The Maquoketa Athletic Boosters need your Help.  The money raised during these two tournaments will purchase uniforms and other necessary equipment for all athletic programs in grades 7-12.  In addition to volunteering to work a shift at these tournaments, we are requesting donations from every member of each athletic team in High School & Middle School.  We will be hosting approximately 90 teams during these 3 days and your donations will be key to their success.

 

Please donate the following items PER SPORT that your athlete has or plans to participate in this year          All FEMALE Athletes: please donate your baked goods to the Girls Tournament.  Items should be dropped off on Friday Nov. 3rd between 3:00 & 6:00 or Saturday Nov. 4th before 10 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. 

All MALE Athletes: please donate your baked goods to the Boys Tournament.    Items should be dropped off on Friday Nov. 10th between 3:00 & 6:00 or Saturday Nov. 11th before 10 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. 

 

Fall Sports (Football, Volleyball and Cross Country) Donate:  Puppy Chow (12 sandwich sized bags, each containing 1 ½ Cup of puppy chow)

Winter Sports (Basketball, Wrestling, Bowling, Cheerleading and Dance) Donate: 2-8 packs of 20 oz Gatorade or Powerade (Blue or Red preferred).   Please drop these donations off in the high School office before October 30th, so we can get a count of what is still needed.

Spring Sports (Track, Soccer, Golf and Tennis) Donate: Scotch-a-roo’s  (one 9X13 pan cut into 12 pieces and individually wrapped)

Summer Sports (Baseball & Softball) Donate: Puppy Chow (12 sandwich sized bags, each containing 1 ½ Cups of puppy chow)

Middle School Athletes:  Please donate  1-8 pack of 20 oz Gatorade or Powerade (Blue or Red preferred)  per sport that  you participate in.   Please drop these donations off in the Middle School office before October 30th.

There will be a “grab-n-go” lunch option for early out Wednesday Oct. 25th. A station will be set up by the pillars in the cafeteria to grab your lunch and type in your number.

The grab-n-go option includes: italian sub sandwich, cookie, baby carrots, apple or banana, and choice of milk.

**The other lunch options for that day will still be available**

 

There will be a high school wrestling meeting for everyone interested in wrestling this year on Tuesday, October 24th during GST in Mr. Schott’s classroom.  Be sure to SIGN INTO YOUR GST FIRST.

 

Monday night play rehearsal will be at Ohnward at 6pm. We will be doing Act 1 with no scripts. Talk to Miss Althoff if you can’t make it.

 

Cage and cross country members need to sign up to work Zombie Run Stations on Wednesday night at 3:45 in Mrs. Bresnan’s Art Room. Sign-up sheets are outside of Room 208 ( Althoff’s Chem Room). More help will make it go quicker!

 

Cage members also need to sign up outside of Althoff’s Chem room (208) to bring snacks for the Zombie Run on Saturday, October 28th.

Friday during GST there will be a co-ed volleyball tournament in the new gym.  This is open to Juniors and Seniors that are passing all of their classes.  Submit your team to Mrs. Taylor by Thursday at noon.

 

There will be a high school wrestling meeting for everyone interested in wrestling this year on Tuesday, October 24th during GST in Mr. Schott’s classroom.

 

Play committees should be meeting this week and getting orders into Mrs. Krum! Tonight’s rehearsal is at 6:00 and is Act 2, Scene 1.

Maquoketa High School’s National Honor Society is accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year. In order to be eligible, students must be juniors or seniors and have at least a 3.25 GPA. If you are interested in being considered for National Honor Society, you will need to fill out the document titled Student Activity Form and return it to the School Counseling Office by Wednesday, October 25, 2017. The Student Activity Form is available on the Maquoketa High School Counseling office website and in the Class of 2018 and 2019 Google Classrooms. There are examples printed on that document already that you will need to delete to enter your individual information. It is preferred that you type your responses on the Student Activity Form. The NHS faculty selection committee will meet within one week of the due date to decide who will be inducted into NHS and you will receive notification in the mail as to your acceptance into National Honor Society.

 

Any FFA member interested in attending National FFA, there are a couple spots left.  Talk to Mr. Lansing

 

Lunch success tables will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week in the HOSA room.

Announcements Oct 9-13

 

Rehearsal tonight starts at 5:30 and we will be blocking Act 1, Scenes 1 – 3.  Please see Mrs. Krum if you have conflicts. No rehearsal again until Friday morning. That rehearsal will be from 8:30 – 10:30AM in my room!

 

CAGE has concession stand for tomorrow night’s volleyball WAMAC conference meet.  We will begin at 3:45, sign -up is outside my room.

 

9th grade students – Mrs. Horner still has a list of over 90 9th grade students who still have not turned in their required dental form.  You were informed of this requirement last school year.  Please turn in the form by this Friday.

 

Wag More’s 2nd Annual Halloween Pet Costume Contest is Oct. 21 & Oct. 22 (10am-2pm by appointment) $5 entry and proceeds go to BPA

 

BPA will be taking Halloween gram orders during lunch shifts on both Wednesday, Oct. 25 and Thursday, Oct. 26. Grams will be delivered on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

 

BPA is selling Maquoketa Cards decals for $8 each or 2 for $15. Stop by room 202 to purchase.

Iowa State Univ Young Women in Business Conference on Mon Oct 23.  Sign up deadline is Fri Oct 13.  This conference is for all students in 9-12 grade.  It does have a registration fee of $15.  This cost includes lunch & conference materials.  For more information come to the Counseling Office.

Looking for some items for our Fall play!  If you can help us out, please contact Mrs. Krum. Items needed: a small wood portable bar, a large wood armoire that will hold two people, three patio lounge chair, four pieces of white railing or fence that could be used on our “ship deck”.  Thanks!!

 

HOSA Fall Conference attendees need to turn in their medical and conduct code forms by tomorrow (Wednesday) to Mrs. Horner.  

 

Cage meeting on Friday, October 6 at 7:30am. It will be held in Krum’s room. Please make it a priority to attend, as the handbooks will be given out at that time and the play will be discussed. Juniors have snack duty.

Congrats to the following team members.  


Maq FFA Forages Team finished 12th out of 67 teams at the World Dairy Expo Forages Contests.  Team members are Roy Gerlach 25th individual, Wyatt Lindstrom 57th, Lee Cain 86th individually.

 

Maq FFA Dairy Cattle Team finished 62nd out of 120 teams. Team members are Mary Holtz, Abby Deising, and Mark Till

 

Maq FFA Dairy Products team of Alyssa Deising, Will Dempsey, Cayden Oestern. For the first time out had a great learning experience and will be working to improve in the future.  These teams all competed against teams from across the country and did very well, as some it was their first time competing.

Hey MAQUOKETA!!! It’s time to “Get Your Walk On” with the 2017 Annual Walk on Wednesday, October 4!! We will meet in front of the Maquoketa YMCA at 5:30pm and walk to see the new pavilion and fishing pond at Prairie Creek Recreation Area then back to the YMCA. This is all a part of an initiative to make IOWA the healthiest state in the nation!  You can register by calling Erica at the Y.

STUDENTS:  Just a reminder: NO OUTSIDE FOOD is to be brought in at lunchtime (including McDonalds, Subway, convenience stores, etc.) You are allowed to bring it as a ‘sack lunch’ with you in the morning, and leave it in your locker until lunchtime. Anyone bringing outside food (or having it dropped off) will be forced to eat in the main office.
