This is an example of what your discussion posting will look like.

  2. KP Huckstadt says:

With these being “general belief statements”, I think these have held up quite well. I was noticing that the lack of a specific reference to anti-bullying programs… This is because they were drafted before this issue came to the forefront. That is one addition I would consider adding to an existing statement or as a separate statement altogether.

Maybe we could reorder the statements to follow the heading:

    SCHOOL ORGANIZATION AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
    • Students will be supported as they transition throughout the school organization developing confidence and independence commensurate with their age and maturity.
    • The working relationships found in our school organization will show an appreciation of diversity, tolerance, and mutual respect for both students and adults.
    • The school organization will continuously strive to provide planned opportunities for involvement of the entire community in the educational process.
    • Students will feel safe and secure, having adequate physical facilities and continuous emotional support in their learning environment.
    • Each school will provide a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment for all students, staff, and community members.
    • The learning environment will be free of bullying behaviors including those behaviors that create fear, prejudice and discrimination of all kinds.
    • Scheduling and staffing decisions will include shared decision-making based upon data related to providing maximum learning opportunities for all students.

    • Elizabeth Wold says:

I really like the way Jane states the last statement – Scheduling and staffing decisions will include shared decision-making based upon data related to providing maximum learning opportunities for all students. Are we as a district doing this or even striving to do this? At times, I feel that staffing decisions are made by filling a vacancy within. How can we provide maximum learning opportunities for all students if we do not base it on data?

  5. Sarah Hogan says:

Maybe they are included in “entire community” but do you want to say anything about partnering/supporting families?

  6. Jill Schawl says:

These have held up quite well. I agree with the comment about adding some anti-bullying language. I think we might also want to take a look at adding something about our commitment to integrating technology into the classroom, as well as out commitment to college readiness for all.

  7. Kate Cavanagh says:

I am also in agreement with adding some anti-bullying language. I like the idea of adding language about our commitment to integrating technology into the classroom. In the statement “Students will feel safe and secure due to having adequate physical facilities and ongoing emotional support”, I also feel we have a few emergency plans in place (fire and tornado evacuations, intruder plans, emergency response teams, Olweus, PBIS, etc.) I’m not exactly sure how that would fit into the current wording, but I feel we have more than what is stated in regards to student safety and security.
