The Middle School is the oldest school building in Maquoketa and with the building comes a lot of history. When it was first built, the building housed a junior high, high school and a junior college. The school also had a theatre and a gym that was positioned East to West. However, when the theatre was taken out of the school, the current gym was positioned North to South. In 1985-1986 the school was changed into just a middle school. With the growing number of students, came an addition in 1992. The construction made space for a science room, a band and chorus room, a cafeteria, an art room, a home economics room, a kitchen, and a teacher’s lounge. Remodeling continued in 1999 with the library.
