Dear Maquoketa Parents, Students, Staff and Community Members:

Our thoughts are with the Parkland Florida school community. The safety of our students at Maquoketa is a top priority, so each time there is violence on a school campus, it prompts us to pause and reflect on the safety measures, such as our secure doorways and our standard response protocol we have in place. This also reminds us how important our efforts are to invest in forming trusting relationships with and among students in our schools.

We are grateful for our partnerships with the Maquoketa Police Department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and with our school resource officer, who work closely with us to be diligent and in tune with individuals who may be in distress so that we can prevent violence and respond appropriately to any threat.

We all have a role in sustaining a safe learning environment.  If you, your child, or someone you know see or hear something out of the ordinary, please tell someone who can help.  Report concerns to your teacher, principal, counselor or local law enforcement officials.  Suspicious activity can be reported to the Maquoketa Police Department at (563) 652-2468, the Jackson County Sherriff’s Department at (563) 652-3312, or, in an emergency, call 911.

Thank you for your vigilance in keeping the Maquoketa School District safe.

Chris Hoover, Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District
