“B” Day
The jazz band members will meet in the band room today during Excel to review last Saturday’s festival performance. There will be no jazz band rehearsal tonight.
CONGRATULATIONS to the members of the Maquoketa Middle School Jazz Band for representing our school so well at last Saturday’s Northeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Jazz Festival that was held at Independence High School. This appearance marked the return of our jazz band to this festival after an absence of over twenty years. No rating was given, but both judges used the word “awesome” to describe the band’s performance. Despite having the smallest group at the festival, both judges commented on the big mature sound the band produced, and also congratulated the band on its ability to accurately demonstrate the swing style of the legendary Count Basie Orchestra. All of our students played improvised jazz solos, and 7th grader Daniel Hagen earned the additional distinction of being awarded an “Outstanding Soloist” of the morning award for his piano solo. Way to go jazzers!
Friday, March 17th will be a dress up day being St. Patrick’s Day theme of green, gold, and black.
If you are interested in creating a poster for the Jackson Soil & Water Conservation District, please see your science teacher for information. This year’s theme/title is “One Water”. Posters are due April 14.
