Dear Maquoketa School District Families and Staff,

As you know, many staff, students and parents have been working tirelessly for the past month on our Return to Learn plan for the 2020-21 school year.  Some of the details are yet to be figured out but here is some information we would like to pass along.

The Maquoketa School District will be offering its students two options to begin the school year:

  1. In-person learning–  This option is for those families who are comfortable with sending their students back into the school buildings beginning August 24.  This option will be accompanied with many safety precautions such as social distancing where feasible, controlled student flow throughout the buildings, along with special sanitation measures just to name a few.
  2. Remote (On-line) Learning–  This option is for those families who are not yet comfortable sending students back to the buildings for their learning.  Many things will be different with remote learning this time around in regards to the rigor of the lessons and the expectations.  One of the expectations of remote learning is that it will be REQUIRED and not optional.  Families without reliable internet access will be able to request a hotspot from the school at no charge.  Pk-5 students will also have access to school devices to take home if needed.

Please understand that there are other options that we may need to consider once the year has started.  This may require students to be at school on certain days while working remotely on other days.  We will also be looking to rearrange our school calendar to accommodate these expected needs and changes.

We know that this coming school year is going to be challenging.  However, we are working hard to try and meet the health, safety, and academic needs of all of our students and staff.  To achieve this we ALL must be prepared for things to change on a day to day, week to week, and month to month basis.  Being fluid and flexible is something that we will need to be throughout the year.

Please be on the lookout for the release of our Return to Learn plan and a revised school calendar the week of July 26.  We will send out an all call and post the plan and calendar to our website and on social media when they are completed.

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate unfamiliar territory in order to make the best decisions for all of our stakeholders.
