My name is Caleb Bonjour, and this will be my first year serving as the Principal at Cardinal Elementary. I cannot wait to embark on the journey of a new year of learning and exploring with our students, staff, and community!
To give you some information about myself, I am a fun loving and educator that strives to be a life-long learner. I have an amazing, supportive wife Amanda, a talkative and rambunctious four-year old son Lincoln, and always on the move two-year old McKinley. We also have two great dogs, Milo (an American Bulldog) and Willow (a Cocker Spaniel). I love being with my family, watching and playing sports, listening to many varieties of music, and learning more and more about technology and education on a daily basis. I have lived all over the state while my Dad served as a teacher and principal for multiple districts. We started in Murray, IA and then moved to Dumont, next was West Branch, and finally we settled in Webster City where I graduated high school as a Lynx. I then went to Central College in Pella to play football and get an amazing education that included a study abroad experience in Merida, Mexico. I graduated from Central College with my elementary teaching degree in December of 2010 and was hired in Pella in early 2011 to teach 6th Grade Math. We then moved to Grundy Center where I taught reading, language arts, social studies and math in Grundy Center. Last year was my first in Maquoketa where I served as the Middle School Dean of Students.
Our amazing staff at Cardinal work tirelessly to ensure that we are meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of all of our students. We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) school and are adopting some new practices as we enter our 3rd year of implementation. This year we are also looking to implement some new things with math, writing, trauma informed care practices, and much much more as we strive to offer the best for our students.
I invite you to visit our school and interacting with us and our students. Consider grabbing a bite to eat with your child/grandchild to see our classroom lunches, or possibly volunteering through the multiple opportunities we offer throughout the year.
