Cardinal Holiday Store
2nd graders at Cardinal Elementary have a fun, holiday tradition. Each December, teachers set up a special Christmas store. They fill the store with new or gently used items donated by generous staff and community members.
Students start by making a list of people who they want to get a present for. This year, students got to “window shop” and peek at all of the items for sale. Our store is next to Mrs. Trusty’s first grade classroom.
We earn “classroom cash” by getting stars on our star charts. We earn stars by being leaders. We get caught being good and following directions the first time, being a good friend to others, and working hard.
Each day while first grade is at specials, our store is open for business. Students who have full star charts get to buy gifts. One full star chart equals one gift. Volunteers help wrap the gifts and students take them home to give to their family.
The store has been open for three days so far this year, and most students have already shopped one or two times!
TERRIFIC Kid Challenge
Kathy Syfert with Kiwanis Club came to Cardinal December 3rd, to tell kids about the TERRIFIC kids program. She taught them about the Kiwanis Club and their mission to help the community and drive to encourage young children to be good people and help others as well. She told them about the things that they do for the community. The group talked about good deeds and volunteering and what they could do to help those around them. Second grade teachers sent home the following note to inform parents of the TERRIFIC Kids incentive over the holiday break and how they could help to support this.
Dear Second Grade Parents,
We are working with the Maquoketa Kiwanis Club to accomplish a Terrific Kid goal for this year. If we reach our goal we get to enjoy a pizza party compliments of the Kiwanis Club.
Since, it is the season for caring and giving, we have chosen different acts of kindness for others as our Terrific Kid goal. We have attached the activities that we have completed in school the past two weeks along with a blank space for your child to do something nice for someone special over our Christmas break.
This is due the week we come back from break, by January 6th. PLEASE FILL OUT AND RETURN THE GREEN SHEET TO BECOME A TERRIFIC KID and be rewarded with a pizza party.
Thank you for helping your child reach this important goal!!
