All Cardinal Elementary second graders started the Two by Two - Kindhearted Kids - Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum in Guidance classes last week! Throughout this ten-week simulation, students will care for their very own stuffed dog or cat.
What is Two by Two Character Development?
Two by Two is a non-profit organization founded in Dubuque, IA.
We develop character-focused lessons about kindness, respect, responsibility, empathy, cooperation, perseverance, and citizenship.
These lifelong skills are taught through the compassion and care of animals.
This program correlates with the guidance curriculum, but also includes reading, writing, math, music, art, and science concepts.
Creators of the program focused on developing curriculum that incorporated the core values of Fairness, Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Cooperation, Perseverance, and Citizenship, a natural fit with the American School Counselor Association National Standards.
Second grade students have enjoyed getting to know their new pets and caring for them at school and at home!
