graduation

Dear Maquoketa Community School District Families and Community Members,

We want to make our families and community aware of a potential change to the date and time of the Maquoketa High School graduation ceremony.

Graduation is currently scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 6:00 p.m. However, if our boys soccer team advances to the sub-state championship match, that game would take place at the same time as graduation and create a conflict for the graduating seniors, families and staff members involved.

Because we strongly value the opportunity for all graduating seniors to participate in commencement with their classmates, the district has identified an alternate graduation date and time if this situation occurs.

If the boys soccer team advances following their game on Wednesday, May 27, graduation will be rescheduled to: Saturday, May 30 at 8:30 a.m.

If the boys soccer team does not advance on May 27, graduation will remain as originally scheduled: Friday, May 29 at 6:00 p.m.

This decision was not made lightly and our goal was to find an option that would allow graduating students to fully participate in commencement, minimize conflicts with previously scheduled graduation parties and family events and provide for the least amount of conflict for those who are traveling.

We recognize there is no perfect solution, and we sincerely appreciate the flexibility, understanding, and support of our families and community as we work to honor both events.

We will communicate a final confirmation immediately following the boys soccer game on Wednesday, May 27.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community.

Sincerely,

Tara Notz, Superintendent

Maquoketa Community School District
