Dear Cardinal Elementary Families,
We recently held our first all-school assembly, where our 2nd grade leaders introduced the 8 Habits of Happy Living that we practice daily through our Leader in Me program. I would like to share a brief overview of each habit and how we incorporate these values at Cardinal.
The 8 Habits include...
1. Be Proactive
Action: Take responsibility for your choices and actions. Use positive language and focus on solutions rather than problems.
2. Begin with the End in Mind
Action: Set personal goals and visualize the outcomes you want to achieve. Create a plan to reach those goals.
3. Put First Things First
Action: Prioritize tasks based on importance, not urgency. Make plans to manage time effectively and focus on what matters most.
4. Think Win-Win
Action: Seek mutually beneficial solutions in interactions. Practice cooperation and teamwork, ensuring everyone’s needs are met.
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Action: Listen actively to others before sharing your own thoughts. Show empathy and try to understand different perspectives.
6. Synergize
Action: Collaborate with others to achieve better results than working alone. Embrace differences and celebrate team successes.
7. Sharpen the Saw
Action: Engage in activities that bring you joy and peace and personal development. Find balance.
8. Find Your Voice and Help Others Find Theirs
Action: Discover your passions and strengths. Encourage and support peers in expressing their own voices and talents.
These habits promote leadership skills and positive character development in students.
Additionally, I am pleased to inform you that we will recognize student leadership through our monthly selections of "Leader of the Week." We will also be awarding "High Hopes" for students who persevere academically, even when facing challenges, and the "Count on Me" award for those who consistently demonstrate friendship and model our expectations. These awards will be presented at the conclusion of each habit review and announced through our weekly CWNK news report and during monthly assemblies.
Thank you for your partnership in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for our students.
Warm regards, Sara Bennis, Cardinal Elementary Principal
