Dear MCSD Families and Staff,
After school today at Maquoketa High School, a student brought a concern to the attention of a staff member. The information shared involved a video that depicted a possible threat toward another student. District administration immediately reported the concern to the Maquoketa Police Department, and an investigation is currently underway.
We take all reports of threats or concerning behavior seriously and follow established district policy and safety protocols in partnership with local law enforcement. At this time, based on the information we have and our close collaboration with the Maquoketa Police Department, this appears to be an isolated incident. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at Maquoketa High School tomorrow to help ensure a continued safe and secure environment.
Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate as appropriate. We are grateful to the student who spoke up and to the staff member who responded quickly—this reflects the importance of our shared commitment to the principle: If you see something, say something.
Thank you for your continued support and trust as we work together to keep our school community safe.
Sincerely,
Tara Notz, Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District
