At last night’s public hearing, the Maquoketa CSD Board of Education reviewed community feedback and voted to approve updates to the 2026–2027 school calendar.

The approved changes include:

Second Semester: The start of second semester will move to Tuesday, January 19, 2027.

Graduation: Graduation for the Class of 2027 will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2027, at 2:00 p.m. in the Maquoketa High School Main Gym.

The semester adjustment is in response to recent legislative changes requiring school districts to complete a second student count date on January 15. Based on guidance now provided by the State, students must graduate after the second count date in order for the district to receive full student funding. This change also creates a more balanced distribution of instructional days between semesters and more closely aligns with the academic calendar of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges. The High School Administration will gain input from the HS staff on how we can best support students and staff with this change and implementation details in the future.

We also appreciate the input shared regarding the graduation date. The district’s goal is to avoid known calendar conflicts when possible while supporting the many needs of our students, families, staff, and community.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and to those who attended and shared comments during the public hearing. We appreciate your continued partnership and support of Maquoketa Community School District.

The updated 2026–2027 calendar is linked calendar and is on the district website.
