The kindergarten classrooms at Cardinal Elementary are full of growing leaders! Guided by the Leader in Me curriculum—which teaches the 7 Habits of Happy Kids—our youngest students are discovering how to make positive choices, use kind words, and treat one another with respect every day.
In Mrs. Richardson’s classroom today, students focused on Habit 1: Be Proactive by learning the importance of stopping and thinking before reacting. Mrs. Richardson led a structured partner talk where students reflected on moments when they needed to pause before taking action. One relatable example sparked plenty of discussion: seeing a big mud puddle and deciding whether jumping right into it was actually a good idea!
To put their learning into practice, the class worked through several real-life scenarios, practicing how to choose proactive, thoughtful responses when faced with tough choices. To top off the lesson, each student decorated their own stop sign to take home as a helpful visual reminder to pause, think, and choose kind words.
A huge shout-out to our incredible kindergarten teachers—Mrs. Gavin, Mrs. Richardson, and Mrs. Owen—for creating a supportive environment where our students learn to navigate relationships with kindness, respect, and strong leadership habits! And an equally big shout-out to our fantastic kindergarten learners for stepping up as true leaders in our school community!
