Things are moving fast in the Maquoketa Alternative Classroom (MAC) program, and there is so much to celebrate! MAC offers students a unique, self-paced environment focused on independent learning and credit recovery—providing a flexible, personalized path toward graduation.
We are thrilled to welcome Jon Fisher, who has joined us as the new MAC instructor! Mr. Fisher and his students are bringing incredible energy to the program, creating a supportive space where students can thrive academically, prepare for future careers, and take ownership of their success.
Our students are already hitting impressive milestones this school year:
Academic Momentum: One of our MAC students has already recovered 5 credits this year by working hard in this self-paced setting!
Creative Touches: If you walk through the MAC spaces, you’ll notice a warm, festive fall theme—thoughtfully decorated by one of our own talented students to make the learning environment feel like home.
Real-World Skills: In addition to their coursework, MAC students are earning school credit through part-time employment, balancing real-world work experience with their studies.
Coming Soon: The Return of the MACnificent Café!
Originally started by former MAC instructor, Bob Roe, the MACnificent Café is making its grand return to the high school building!
Before opening the doors, students are busy mastering key "soft skills"—learning organization, customer service, marketing, efficiency, time management, cash register operation, online ordering, and delivery. Once open, the café will serve warm and cold beverages from 7:30 to 8:10 AM, including:
Hot Drinks: Coffee, hot chocolate, and cappuccinos (vanilla & caramel)
Cold Frappes: Vanilla, caramel, cookie dough, and pumpkin
Stay Tuned! We are putting the finishing touches on the order details and training. Keep an eye out for our official opening date announcement coming soon!
