Briggs Elementary staff and students have recently kicked off a "Recess Reboot," revisiting our expectations for ensuring a safe, respectful & responsible recess. We had four students recognized for their leadership during recess. Thank you, Jaslynn, Ava, Addy, & Elizabeth for being such great examples for others!

Hello from the Elementary Parent Lighthouse Team!

Our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up next week and we would like to support our teachers with some snacks to get them through these evenings after a day of teaching! We have come up with a list of items enjoyed by teachers but have also left some spaces for those special treats you like to make.

If you are willing to provide these items, please click on the Sign-Up Genius Link by clicking HERE https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C044EABA729A0F9C43-62010737-briggscardinal#/

We will ask that all donations are delivered by 12pm on Wednesday, March 11th. Remember: Please package your items in tossable containers, as we will not be keeping track of containers to return to owners.

Your support is greatly appreciated!!

Thank You!

5th graders are learning about the Renaissance in literacy. Students replicated Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel by lying under their desks to draw a picture. They quickly realized this was not an easy task and wondered how Michelangelo did it for 4 1/2 years.

We were so excited to see you at our concert!! If you are picking your student up early after the concert, please DO NOT park on 5th Street in front of our building, as this is where we will be unloading buses. Please utilize Short Street and/or Apple Street for parking. Thank you for prioritizing student safety!!

As we enter the winter season, we want to remind families that our general threshold for canceling school due to cold is when wind chill temperatures fall between -25 to -30°F. At those levels, the National Weather Service typically issues a Wind Chill Warning.

Looking ahead to tomorrow morning, temperatures are forecasted to be around -14°F at 6:00 a.m. , so we do not anticipate any delays or cancellations at this time.

Students typically remain indoors for recess when temperatures are below 0°F, but we still ask that all students come to school dressed warmly, especially those riding the bus. Having proper winter gear is important in case of any unforeseen delays.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate this early start to winter!

Good morning! We have some MMEU trucks parked on 5th Street and Short Street due to utility work in the area. Please use extra caution when dropping off students & I would suggest utilizing Apple Street for student drop-off this morning. Thanks! ~Mrs. Recker

On Friday we will be having our Fall Classroom Celebrations! Our 3rd graders will be walking to some downtown businesses on a treat parade and should dress warmly. Costumes are welcomed, not required, for students & staff. Students may wear them all day or change into them. Masks, face paint, and weapon/weapon-like items are not allowed.

Hello Briggs Families!

Although Winter is not quite upon us, we're going to be getting a sneak peek of it tomorrow so we wanted to send out a reminder to please send your child to school dressed warmly and appropriately. We do go out to recess each day, many times twice a day, unless it is raining, thunder/lightning, or the windchill is below zero, so it's important to be dressed warm enough for these times.

Today we saw many students "braving" the cooler temps while trying to look chill in their t-shirts...they were chilly, all right!! Tomorrow looks like MUCH COLDER temperatures, so we are asking that you send your student with a coat or sweatshirt, whichever will keep them warmest outdoors, and possibly a hat & gloves, too! Students WILL BE going outdoors tomorrow so it's important students are dressed appropriately for the colder temperatures.

Thank you for your continued support!!

We are excited for our first home football game this Friday, August 29th vs. Anamosa. Please review our Activities Expectations. Students 5th grade and younger are expected to sit with their family members (5th grade will continue to sit with their family even though they are in Middle School). In addition, once students enter they need to remain in Goodenow. Students will not be able to reenter the event if they leave, unless the are with an adult.

Thank You for your support as we work to make this a fun and safe event for everyone!

Tomorrow is the first day of school and we are so excited to welcome back all students, staff and families for the new school year! Tomorrow, Monday, August 25th is an early out. Please review the following times for your specific building:

Cardinal: 1:10 pm dismissal
Briggs: 1:10 pm dismissal
Middle School: 1:20 pm (walkers/car riders), 1:25 (bus riders)
High School: 1:30

These times will be the same times that apply to all Friday early outs also. A gentle reminder, to please be patient and give grace to staff, bus drivers and families as navigating pick-up and drop-off can always be a little challenging these first few days. Specifically, if you have a student at Briggs, Middle School or riding the Cardinal/Briggs shuttle please review the information that was provided regarding pick-up and drop-off locations.

Thank You,

Thank you so much to our local businesses and organizations who donated and supported our district wide back to school staff luncheon on Friday. We appreciate the support of our staff as we kick off the new year! Thank You to the following: Fareway Dollar Fresh Eagles Club Women's Club Board Member Mary Herring for helping serve staff. Staff and parent volunteers for helping grill the delicious burgers and hotdogs. It was a beautiful day and great way to connect with everyone before students arrive. Here's to a great year!
