Cardinal Elementary

Pumpkin Math in first grade this week. We weighed, and measured the height and circumference of our pumpkin. Then we took out the seeds , estimated how many there were and then counted the seeds using groups of 10. We got to taste different things made with pumpkin and collected data on how many liked each thing. It was a little loud but we had fun!

Mrs. Trusty's first grade class had fun and applied our observation and math skills last week with Pumpkin Math! We made observations about the outside of our pumpkins and recorded them then we opened them up and took out all the seeds and counted them. One group had 632 seeds in their pumpkin!! Way to count, Cardinals!

Congratulations to our River Valley All-Conference runners who competed at the conference meet last night . The girls team placed five runners in the top 30 earning conference distinction! The boys were led by Brenden Gerardy who also earned an All Conference award!

Abigail Miller 2nd place with a time of 19:19 and Elite All Conference award.

Natalie Hackman 12th place with a time of 21:27
and All Conference award.

Iris Wagner 14th place with a huge PR time of 21:44 and All Conference award.

Riley Buttz 26th place with a time of 22:39 and Honorable Mention All Conference award.

Natalie Irwin 29th place with a time of 22:47 and Honorable Mention All Conference award.

Brenden Gerardy 20th place with a time of 18:46 and All Conference award.

The girls team of Abigail Miller, Natalie Hackman, Iris Wagner, Riley Buttz, Natalie Irwin, Charlotte Ihns, Briley Eggers, Laura Weirup, and Ella Nelson
placed fourth at the conference meet!

Mrs. Gavin's class enjoyed visiting the Maquoketa Fire Department. Students got to see and feel equipment firefighters use to do their job, practice drills to keep them safe in a fire, and see all of the fire trucks. The highlight of the day was riding back to Cardinal on the fire trucks!

Yesterday was an exciting day for Mrs. Richardsons kindergarten class! We visited the fire station and learned all about fire safety. The firefighters taught us important ways to stay safe if there is ever a fire. One of the most exciting parts of our visit was getting to see and ride in the fire trucks! We got to explore the trucks and see some of the equipment firefighters use when they respond to emergencies. We had so much fun learning, exploring, and spending time with our local firefighters! We are thankful for all the brave firefighters who work hard to keep our families and community safe.

First Grade had fun playing an addition game to see who had the biggest sum during math today.

Hello Elementary Families!

We will be having our first Elementary Parent Lighthouse Team meeting this upcoming Monday, October 5th, at 5pm in the Briggs Elementary Library.

Not sure what a Parent Lighthouse is or does? No worries!

This meeting will be an opportunity to leave about our parent organization, Parent Lighthouse Team, and how it serves the students, staff, and schools in our district.

We are always looking for new members and new ideas so please join us on Monday, October 5th and 5pm in Briggs Elementary Library. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Our Cardinal friends Isla, Axel, & Gunnar were awarded Lunch with the Law for having perfect attendance so far this school year! They each selected a staff member to join them and the Maquoketa PD for lunch at Timber Lanes Bowling Alley. Thanks to Asst Chief Thomsen, SRO Tenney & the Maquoketa PD for helping us recognize our Cardinal student leaders!

According to our annual 7th grade Cy-Hawk battle, the Hawks will win tomorrow by a million!! 🖤💛🏐 Shoutout to this group for being good sports about our scrimmage game. You could say the numbers were a little uneven. 🤣
