Hello Cardinal Elementary Families,
We hope you have enjoyed the week and are ready for the weekend. Check out our CWNK newscast (https://youtu.be/3WKH9vAo3i0) for more information about what's happening at Cardinal Elementary next week. We can't believe May is almost here!
Highlights include:
Earth Day April 22
April is Autism Awareness month
5 A Day Live performance this week
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Joke of the Week
Gunnar Stoltenberg is doing a great job of sharpening his saw. He makes healthy choices for himself and takes care of his body. Also worth mentioning, he is a very kind and caring friend. He uses respectful words and actions at school. Good job, Gunnar!
Ja'Zayvion Haddock is a great leader in our classroom and shows that helping others and working together is the best way to have a good day in school.

Due to the potential for severe storms this afternoon, we will implement a 12:30 early out dismissal today (one hour earlier than our normal Friday dismissal schedule) to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Based on information from the National Weather Service, there is concern that storms may impact our area this afternoon. Our goal is to ensure that students and staff are safe and not in transit during any severe weather.
Today’s dismissal will be one hour earlier than our typical Friday early out schedule. For example, if your student is picked up at 1:10 PM on Fridays, today their pick-up time will be 12:10 PM. If they are normally dropped off by the bus at 2:00 they will be dropped off at 1:00.
There will be no after school practices or activities today, Friday, April 17th.
We recognize that the exact timing of storms can be unpredictable; however, we always strive to err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support in helping us prioritize the care and safety of our school community.
Sincerely,
Tara Notz
Superintendent
Maquoketa Community School District

Gracelyn Burton does a great job playing cooperatively with friends, helping others in need, sharing and listening to friends. She loves to build in her free time.
Sara Ramos is working to be the very best she can be by making sure she understands what she needs to accomplish and trying her very best. She is learning a lot about herself! Keep it up Sara!
Brantley Rasdon does an amazing job following habit #7: Sharpen the Saw at school and at home. At school he loves to build and create. At home he tends to the garden and helps care for the chickens. He really knows how to "sharpen the saw."

Today we celebrated 2nd grade leaders with our Leadership Lunch. Congratulations to the following students for being great leaders at Cardinal Elementary!
Augie Zismer works hard to be his best and has made great growth as a leader in 2nd grade. He works hard to do well and even finds time to sharpen his saw! Way to go Augie! I am so proud of you!
Chevy Dague demonstrates habit 7 by being responsible and respectful to his classmates. He balances work and play. He knows when it's time to focus and give his best effort, and he also enjoys appropriate moments of fun without losing control or distracting others. He leads by example to help create a positive environment. I'm so proud of the leader he's becoming! Keep up the great work Chevy Dague!
Chloe Hotler does a great job “sharpening the saw” by taking care of her body and mind so she can do her best learning. She has practiced keeping a positive attitude and willingly accepts feedback to improve her learning. Chloe regularly tries her best and asks for help when something is difficult.
Hailey Hicks has been working really hard to sharpen her spirit and soul! She works to find the good in all things and uses her tools to find calmness when things get challenging. We are so proud of you for bringing so much joy to not only yourself, but all those around you!
