The Maquoketa CSD Board of Education will hold its regular board meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8th at 4:30 p.m. at Central Office.

A public hearing for the 2026–2027 calendar amendment will follow and will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8th at Central Office. This date and time was scheduled during the June 15, 2026 board meeting.

The Board will discuss potential revisions to the 2026–2027 school calendar. One proposed revision is to adjust the graduation date currently scheduled for Friday, May 21, 2027, due to a potential conflict with the State Track Meet for participating students and families. Should the Board wish to consider alternative dates, potential options include Sunday, May 23, 2027 or Sunday, May 30, 2027. State law requires that graduating seniors may only complete their school year up to five days prior to the last day of school for all other students, limiting earlier graduation options.

A second proposed revision would move the start of the second semester to January 19, 2027, rather than immediately following winter break. This recommendation is in response to recent legislative changes requiring school districts to complete a second student count date on January 15. The State has now provided guidance related to student count procedures and in order for the district to receive the full funding for students, they must graduate following the second count date. The proposed change would also create a more balanced distribution of instructional days between semesters and align more closely with the academic calendar of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.

Recommended Action
Superintendent Notz recommends a revision to the '26/'27 calendar with the second semester of the school year to begin January 19, 2027 and for the board to set graduation to either Sunday, May 23, 2027 or Sunday, May 30, 2027.

High School Football Camp

Dates/Times: August 3rd - 7th from 9:30am - 12:30pm
Cost: $40 - Athletes will recieve a Maquoketa Football Camp T-Shirt if registered by July 15th. Any registrations after that date are not guaranteed a shirt.
Description: This camp is designed to bridge the gap between summer training and the onset of the official competitive season. Practices will be used to establish team standards for operation and practice, introduce foundational techniques for success and safety, and install core schematic principles in all three phases of the game. These practices provide the opportunity to acclimate to the field and team environment and serve as a launch pad for a successful season. It is expected that if an individual plans on participating in high school football, they attend this camp.

This camp is designed to introduce youth football players to Maquoketa Cardinals Football with an emphasis on developing complete football players. Athletes can expect to focus on the most transferable game skills: throwing, catching, route running, coverage, and open-field playmaking. Older athletes will build on that foundation with exposure to more physical aspects of the game including tackling, blocking, and block destruction. With a fast-paced and high-rep structure, athletes will learn the skills necessary to “Fly high on Friday nights under the lights!”.

Cardinal boys and girls who are currenlty entering into 4th grade through boys and girls who are currenlty entering into 9th grade, are invited to attend Cardinal Tennis Camp. There will be two camp sessions available. Athletes are invited to attend just one or both! Each camp session is $30. First camp session will be Tuesday, June 23rd from 9am to 12pm. Camp will take place down on the tennis courts located at the Jack Marlow Athletic Complex. Second camp session will be Tuesday, July 14th from 9am to 12pm. Camp will once again take place at the tennis court located at the Jack Marlow Athletic Complex.
