Four seniors brought the energy and competitive spirit to our Minute to Win It challenge during the Homecoming pep assembly, keeping the crowd cheering from start to finish. Then, Mr. Gavin took center stage in the much-anticipated pie-in-the-face contest, filling the gym with laughter and excitement! Today, Maquoketa High School was bursting with Cardinal Pride! ❤️🖤 Our pep assembly brought students, staff, families, and future Cardinals together as we celebrated the start of an exciting fall season. From the energy of our cheerleaders and the sounds of our incredible band to the introduction of our fall sports teams, the gym was filled with excitement, school spirit, and community pride. We were especially excited to welcome students from Cardinal and Briggs Elementary to join in the fun and help cheer on our Cardinals. Seeing all generations of Cardinal fans come together reminded us what makes Maquoketa so special. Students and staff brought their TEAM spirit today for Jersey Day during our homecoming week of celebration! Tomorrow will be Spirit Day! Can't wait to see all the red, black, and white. Go Cards! ❤️🖤🤍

Thane Bayles earned valuable points for the senior class in the cup stacking challenge, stacking the cups without using his hands in an impressive 1 minute and 8 seconds! 👏🔥 Way to go, Thane, and way to represent the senior class! Cardinal pride is alive and well! ❤️🖤

The sophomores came ready to compete at today’s Homecoming Assembly! 💪 They kicked things off by dominating the hula hoop challenge, moving the hoop through 10 students who were linked together without using their hands to touch the hoop. They were able to accomplish this in an impressive 39 seconds. They kept the momentum going in the Hungry Hippo competition, with Drew Gruenwald and Mason Wood collecting an incredible 45 balls to secure another victory. To top it all off, sophomore Kody McDonald-Mortenson faced off against freshman Kye Notz in the Rock, Paper, Scissors championship and came away with victory! Tomorrow we find out who earns the Cardinal Spirit Stick as classes compete in the final Battle Cries at the pep assembly! Best wishes to all our Cardinals! ❤️🖤

JH Football Location Update

Tonight’s JH Football games on Thursday, September 17, 2026, have been moved to the High School Practice Field inside the track.

Please enter the parking lot off 5th Street, taking the first right after the Clinton Community College building.

Please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for seating. Water is also welcome.

7th Grade will begin at 4:00 PM, with 8th Grade to follow.

🏀 Students vs. Staff Basketball Showdown! 🏀 Today’s Homecoming Assembly basketball showdown at the high school brought plenty of laughs and friendly competition. Whether you were cheering for the students or the staff, one thing was clear—our Cardinals know how to bring the energy! 😊

What a great Homecoming Parade! ❤️🖤 It was wonderful to see so many of our Maquoketa High School fall activities, teams, and club organizations represented throughout the parade. Our students do an amazing job of showcasing their talents, dedication, and involvement both in and out of the classroom. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the community members who came out to support our students. The Cardinals battled hard under the lights at Goodenow Field but came up short against Tipton, 27–20.

Maquoketa showed plenty of fight throughout the night and continued to compete until the final whistle. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Cardinals!
