Hello Briggs Families!

Due to construction, our Opaa Kitchen Staff was unable to fully prepare for hot lunch service at Briggs for the start of the school year. For this reason, we will be serving Grab & Go breakfast and lunch items for the first week and reassessing by the end of the week to determine if this needs to continue a second week or if we will be able to start up with the planned hot meal service menu Opaa has planned.

Each day for breakfast Opaa will be offering a cereal option along with their Grab & Go option. Each day for lunch Opaa will be offering a sandwich option and an Opaa to Go option. All options selected are very popular with our students so we are confident we will have a choice your child will like but as always, your child is also welcome to bring their own school lunch.

We appreciate Oppa's flexibility and readiness to meet our needs, as well as appreciate your understanding and support while we continue to navigate our construction process.

We are looking forward to welcoming students back into the building to make it a great year!!

Hello Cardinal Families,

We are excited to be welcoming our students into the building tomorrow for our First Day of the 2026-2027 school year!!

I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of our morning drop off and afternoon pick-up procedures at Cardinal Elementary.

At Cardinal Elementary, we use the front (North) drive for drop off, or you may park on Pershing Road and safely walk your student down to the building where they can enter through the east doors. As a reminder, please do not block driveways or crosswalks when parking. All students will be coming into the building for the start of the day no earlier than 7:40am and waiting in specified areas (TK/K in the music room, 1st & 2nd grade in the library) before going to classrooms at 8:05. This is also a time for students to eat breakfast which will be served from 7:45-8:05.

If you are utilizing the drop off area in front of the building, please remain in your car to keep your stop quick and allow for traffic to keep flowing. Vehicles are asked to remain on the south side in order to keep the north side open for bussing. The only vehicles permitted on the east side of the building will be school buses or staff vehicles. SEE IMAGE FOR CLARIFICATION.

Students riding buses will depart from Cardinal Elementary between 3:10-3:20pm. Once all buses have departed from Cardinal Elementary, students who are parent pick-up or walking home will leave the building through the (north) front doors.

We ask that you also use this front (north) entrance as a drive-through only to pick up students. Please remain in your car and refrain from parking in the parking spots at this time. You can pull up to the end of the front entrance as traffic moves along. Teachers will escort students to your vehicle. If you prefer to park you may park on Pershing Road and wait at the sidewalk. The crossing guard will escort your child across the drive safely. Thank you so much for your help in keeping our Cardinals safe!

Briggs Elementary Arrival & Dismissal Information

Briggs families, please review the updated arrival and dismissal information below as we continue to navigate construction around the building. Thank you in advance for your patience, flexibility, and attention to these safety procedures.

**Bus & Shuttle Information**

* Students riding the shuttle bus to the Briggs area will remain on the bus and will be taken to the old hospital parking lot across from Hospice near 611 W. Quarry Street.
* Students will not get off the bus at Briggs.
* Parents picking up students who ride the shuttle should meet them at the old hospital parking lot.
* Briggs students who need to meet siblings at the old hospital parking lot may either walk the approximately block-and-a-half distance or ride the shuttle bus to that location.

**Parent Drop-Off & Pick-Up**

* Families dropping off or picking up students at Briggs should use Short Street or Apple Street.
* Please do not use Fifth Street in front of the school entrance for drop-off or pick-up.
* Fifth Street will be reserved as the bus zone from 7:40–8:10 a.m. and 3:00–3:30 p.m.

Please continue to follow all posted traffic signs, construction barriers, and staff directions, and allow a little extra time as everyone becomes familiar with the new routines.

Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and organized for all students. We appreciate your partnership and flexibility during construction!

*See the map images for visuals if needed.

Tomorrow is the day, Cardinals!

We are so excited to welcome our students back to school tomorrow, Monday, August 24th! We can’t wait to see our classrooms, hallways, and buildings filled with students again.

As we begin the year, please help us by allowing a little extra time and patience with transportation and traffic. Bus routes are new, and unexpected delays can happen during the first few days. Please follow all posted traffic signs, avoid blocking driveways, and give our buses and families a little extra space as everyone settles into new routines.

Important reminder: Tomorrow is a 2-hour early dismissal. For example, if your child normally dismisses around 3:15 p.m., they will dismiss around 1:15 p.m. Please make appropriate transportation arrangements and, if your child rides the bus, make sure someone is available to greet them when they arrive home.

You may also receive additional communication from your child’s specific school with building-level reminders. Please reach out if you have questions.

We are ready for a great year and can’t wait to welcome our students back tomorrow! See you soon, Cardinals!
