Hello Cardinal Elementary Families,
Today at the Leadership Assembly we announced our 2nd Grade Leaders of the Week for Habit 3: Put First Things First. Congratulations to these leaders and our Staff Shout-Outs!
Arizona Baker is a great leader in our classroom. She works well independently and works hard on her big rocks before completing other activities.
Michael Schipper is a great leader in our classroom when he works hard and then when he finishes his work, he does his may dos. Great job Michael!
Kepriel William is a hard worker and a great leader. He works on his big rocks and is a great friend to everyone. He is a good role model in the classroom and I appreciate him.
Evelyn Larson has become very vocal in the best way! She has become more confident in herself and always participates during every lesson. Evelyn adds so much to our class discussions and is a joy to watch grow! Keep up the great work Evelyn!
Damonie Moss has been working hard on his reading at home and has consistently returned his baggie book. As a result of reading his baggie books, Damonie's reading fluency has improved! Way to go Damonie!!
Piranjay Robert is a good role model for other students to follow. He puts first things first when he gets right to work during work time. He gets his work done in a timely manner. Piranjay makes sure to do his must dos first before doing the may dos each day. Keep up the good work, Piranjay!
Mrs. Neyens deserves a big shout out for coming out of retirement to teach a 2nd grade class. She is building relationships with the students. She arrives early to prepare for the day so she is ready for the students. Her willingness to go the extra mile, whether it was engaging the students in creative activities, or ensuring that her lessons were delivered smoothly, does not go unnoticed. Thank you Mrs. Neyens for your commitment to providing a positive learning environment. Your hard work truly makes a difference!
Ms. Sue is an amazing support for our preschool friends and even helps to guide our second grade friends to make good choices at recess. She is very knowledgeable in supporting students as they learn sounds and how to use those sounds to make words. The relationships she builds with students and her kind, caring nature let students know that she cares about them and their success. Thank you for being a great leader, Ms. Sue!

All middle school students and family of middle school students are invited to attend a fall fundraiser tonight at the Middle School to support our iJAG program. Please join in on the fall fun tonight at the Middle School.

Hello Cardinal Elementary Families,
I wanted to send out a reminder about the upcoming Family Bingo Night coming up on Thursday, November 7th. There will be lots of great food and fun provided by our Cardinal Staff and Parent Lighthouse Team. We are excited to share more information about our Leader in Me Program and collaborate with families. Every student who attends will get a free stuffed animal and book with opportunities to win door prizes and family games to play at home. I'm also including a link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdBee4Gv-06Xn2jhp204s_1VO2AyS3_B9QHQhzIbkYIjfRdgg/viewform?usp=sf_link) for the sign-up. You may also call the school and let Kaitlyn know how many will be attending and she can sign you up. I know there are several activities going on that night so if you can only make it for some of the time, that is okay too. We are planning for plenty of food and dessert! Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.
Warm regards,
Sara Bennis
Cardinal Elementary Principal

We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week next week at Cardinal Elementary. This year’s theme is “Life Is A Movie, Film Drug Free”. We will celebrate Red Ribbon Spirit Week with dress up days during this special week! This week promotes drug prevention and awareness in a mission to keep kids drug-free! In elementary school, we talk about what type of choices are healthy for our body and what choices are not healthy. Red Ribbon Week is meant to bring awareness to the devastating effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. It is a way for communities to show that they are taking a stand against drugs. The symbol of a Red Ribbon has been around since 1985 to symbolize a commitment to a drug-free America. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated nationwide October 23-October 31. October is also Safe Schools Month, as well as Bullying Prevention Month. Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and extended family. Let’s take this week to celebrate and teach students about making safe and healthy choices for their minds and bodies!

A reminder that MCSD has a 1:30 pm early out today, Thursday, October 17th for conferences and no school on Friday, October 18th. Please reach out to your student's buildings if you have any questions about conferences for today. Thank You!

Cardinal Elementary celebrated our TK/Kindergarten Leaders of the Week and Staff Shout-outs during our Leadership Assembly today. Congrats to all of these amazing leaders!
Emma Richardson (TK) - Emma works hard in her TK classroom and is a great role model and friend to her classmates. Emma is able to make a plan each day to ensure that she is getting her work done so that she can have free time at the end of the day! Way to go Emma!
Gwen Sampica (KO) - Gwen is always doing her best work and encourages her classmates to do the same. She is a wonderful role model and we are so lucky to have her in our class! Keep being you!
Khalessi Traman (KG) - Khalessi puts First Things First each day when she completes daily assignments neatly and on time. She makes sure all of her work is done before she goes to Math or Reading Stations or recess. Keep up the great work Khalessi!
Raelynn Creger (KR) - Raelynn is able to plan ahead by coming to school ready to go each day. She is a good role model when walking in the hall and goes right to where she needs to be making sure all things are put away in her locker before heading to the classroom to begin the day of learning. Thanks for being a great leader, Raelynn!
Mrs. Cari (TK Teacher) - Mrs. Cari has been working hard to set goals for herself as a teacher and setting action steps that not only strengthen her teaching abilities but help her students grow and learn as well. She is clear on her expectations and helps students to meet and exceed these expectations. We are proud of your hard work, Mrs. Cari!
Ms. Bahlmann (2nd Grade Teacher). - Miss Bahlmann goes above and beyond to connect with all of her students and build strong relationships that motivate students to learn. She plans lessons with student needs and interests in mind that keep them engaged. Thank you for your kind and caring heart, Miss Bahlmann!

Thank you to all those families that brought in treats for the elementary teachers during P/T Conferences. We greatly appreciate all the goodies and your kindness!

Fire Prevention Week is always a blast in preschool! 😀❤️🔥 Students learn a lot about fire safety and have a great time while doing it. Big thanks to the Maquoketa Fire Department for letting us come check out the station and for giving us a ride back. 🚒😊

During our Homecoming Spirit Day at Cardinal Elementary, we had the opportunity to have our school picture taken with the help of Justin Snyder and his drone. Thank you Justin for capturing all of us in one shot!
